Bormio, between tradition and culture
Bormio is a tourist destination in the Alps.
Besides being the ideal place for winter and summer sports, for its thermal waters and its strong flavored food, this mountain resort is also highly valued for its history and its monuments.
Even today, walking through the streets of the historic center of Bormio, you can breath its past and its traditions. Each district, with its peculiarities, expresses this past thanks to an artistic heritage of great beauty.
Among the many historical insights, already documented at the beginning of 1300, Bormio developed mainly around two areas: the square called Kuerc and the church of St. Anthony, right in the center of the district of Combo.
Despite the decades, these areas still allow the visitor to appreciate the views and testimonies of its prestigious past.
The town of Bormio offers the traveller some frescoes on the house walls of the old town that enrich a pleasant walk back in time between modernity and history.
In the past the city of Bormio had 32 towers that represented the power of the richest families, but now, the only evidence of this glorious past is witnessed by the Kuerc square, the Alberti Tower and the Palazzo de Simoni.
There are also places of worship such as the Collegiate Church of Santa Barbara, the churches of San Antonio and San Vitale. The history, the tradition and the liveliness of Bormio are the reasons of its great success!
