The Fort of Oga (second part)

Four cannons were found at the Venini Fort. They can be considered rather special if compared to those used in the other Italian military forts.

They were placed on turntables and could rotate 360° with a range of 12,800 meters.

From the control room of the fort officers had a telephone connection with the General Headquarters (located at Bagni Nuovi throughout the World War II), with the fortification of Monte Scale and with the lookouts placed on the facing hills.

The Italian defense line in Alta Valtellina included a fortified artillery point on the ridge of Mount Scale in addition to Venini Fort in Oga.

The visitor can see it from the roof of the Fort turning northwest.

To hit the enemy lines on the Stelvio Pass and on the Scorluzzo Mount, the shots flew fron the fort beyond the enormous rock wall of Mount Reit.

The lookouts placed on the heights indicated whether the shots from the guns of the fort had hit their destination or if it was necessary to recalculate the coordinates of shots by increasing or decreasing the quantity of powder to be used.

Today the visitor can see many war relics because the fort has recently became a historical museum.
