Excursion to the Stelvio Pass and the Scorluzzo Mount

Our tour begins at the ”Terza Cantoniera” (m.2342), which can be easily reached by car.
The itinerary is the following: go along the road to the Stelvio Pass; when you get to the “Piana del Braulio” park your car and walk towards the old military trail that runs through the valley and follow it. After the first bend to the left, you find the trail that crosses the Scorluzzo stream and that leads to the homonymous mountain hut at an altitude of m. 2530. After 50 minute walk you see 3 lakes, the largest one is also the most northern (m.2607).
At this point I suggest you to stop and admire the scenery of extraordinary and touching beauty. You will be thrilled at the sight of the war-ruins that marked the history during Great War.
In fact, the Stelvio Pass, which today is a major tourist destination, played a key strategic role during the First World War, when the area was fortified by Italians and Austrians who faced each other to defend their territories.
The most contentious areas were the crest of the Scorluzzo Mount and the “Filone dei Mot”. There you find the remains of the Austrian and Italian trenches separated by a strip of land called "no man's land."
Go back to the “Piana del Braulio” and drive your car to the Cima Coppi to admire the valley below at m.2758.
