The alpine landscape which characterizes Alta Valtellina is a must for bikers. There are lots of paths from 1000 m. to 3000 m. that allow bikers to compete with their skills and have fun spending pleasant days immersed in nature between valleys and unspoilt corners of rare beauty. The most famous race for mountain bikers is the “Gran Fondo Alta Valtellina, an annual event held in late July which has two locations: the classic 39 km long and 67 km Marathon with a height difference of 2300 m.
The peaks of Bormio are part of the historical big climbs, decisive goals for winning the final pink jersey of the Tour of Italy. Stelvio, Gavia. Foscagno and Mortirolo are key players in numerous events from May to October, for instance the “Re Stelvio Mapei Day” that 'in recent years has attracted more than thousands of fans.
The climb Bormio. Mazzo-Mortirolo called as "the pirate’s climb" is very tiring one with its 18% slope. It is the most feared climb for most Italian and foreign athletes.
